In this tutorial, we will be looking at how to create a Voltage Comparator using Operational Amplifier UA741CP.
In order to understand the concept of Comparator in Operational Amplifiers, let’s take a look at diagram below.
In the perspective of Comparators, it simply means that voltage between the Non-Inverting and Inverting terminals are compared to determine the output voltage.
If;
V1 > V2, Output will lean towards V+
V2 > V1, Output will lean towards V-
Below Diagram shows the pins that can be found in the IC
To conduct an experiment to test the Comparator function, setup the circuit as shown below :
Try adjusting the potentiometer that controls the voltage towards Inverting and Non-Inverting pin. You will notice that whenever Non-Inverting Voltage is higher than Inverting Voltage, the LED will light up.
